Three Question Thursday 1.5.17

1. “I don’t know how to feel about Carrie Fisher’s death.”

Alright I admit it.. this isn’t a question. When I told Mini that Carrie had passed, she thought about it for a while then told me she wasn’t sure how to feel about it. 2016 was insane with the celebrity deaths, quite frankly. Every time I signed onto Twitter, I felt another piece of my childhood just slip away.

We are HUGE Star Wars fans, in case you didn’t know. Mini idolized Princess Leia. Mini always said Leia was a lady and a princess, but she also kicked butt. As we discussed it, the only thing I could tell Mini was that it was okay to be confused.

I said, “You loved Leia and everything she stood for, but you didn’t know Carrie personally. You know after the next movie, Leia will no longer appear and that makes you sad. It’s okay to mourn the loss of someone, no matter who it is and even if it is just a character.”

Mini has approached me since our talk and wants to discuss the upcoming movies and I’m sure the entire fandom is curious to see how the franchise deals with the death of the most badass Disney princess ever!

2. “Why do I need glasses?”

Uhhh cuz both your parents have poor eyesight and started wearing glasses in the 2nd (him) and 4th (me) grade? It seems like a “duh”, but Mini was very concerned about this. She thinks having glasses will alter her entire image. She was convinced she won’t be pretty anymore. She cried that her friends will not want to be seen with her. She expressed concern that a playground bully had slapped another child’s glasses off their face and she is worried it will happen to her.

I reminded her that her friends don’t hang out with her just because she’s pretty and has nice eyes (I might be slightly biased because it’s a carbon copy of my own eyes and face). They hang out with her because she has a great personality. she’s fun. She likes things like Star Wars or Cops & Robbers. She refers to her friends as “fans” (she’s a YouTube fanatic, sooo yeah). I’m raising a pretty great kid, if I do say so myself. She’s both sympathetic and empathetic. I remind her of all her good qualities. From the time of the exam to the time she received her glasses, Mini had time to think about it. She got used to the idea and even accepted her “new” identity.

I’ll save the pics for a Mini Monday post and let her tell you all about it :)

3. Did you get anything good for Christmas?

No. I’m an adult. Plus, when you’re a parent, it’s all about the kids.

PSSHHHH HELL YEAH I GOT SOMETHING GOOD!

This thing is SO. MUCH. FUN!

My inner nerd went nuts. My outer nerd went nuts. It was a nutsy time.

Mini Monday – Post 8 – Revenge of the 5th: More Bday Pics

Mini Monday also happens on a Thursday this week :)

Hello Everyone!

I promised you some pics from my Star Wars bday party of the food. My parents came up with some great names for the food and drinks. They don’t know if anyone else has used these names because they didn’t have time to Google it.

They started by downloading a free Star Wars font they found on the web and used up a LOT of black and yellow ink and lots of tape.

First here is the food:

And now, the drinks:

We had a few activities too. One was Pool Noodle LightSabers. You take a pool noodle and cut it in half. You use gray and black tape to make it the way you want. It was so much fun!

People forgot to take them home!

Another activity was Make Your Own R2 Unit. Mommy printed them out on all sorts of colors so people could choose their favorites.

Mini Monday – Post 7 – My Bday Pics: May the 4th Be With You

Mommy Note: We know it is not Monday, but it IS Star Wars Day so Mini Monday comes on a Wednesday this time around. :)

Hi, Everyone!

I am turning 9 next month and I am so excited! This year, I chose to do a football theme for my bday because I like sports and football is fun to watch. Go Giants!

Last year, I had a Star Wars theme bday party. I waited until now to share some pics with you and I hope you enjoy them.

My nails came out awesome! My Mommy showed the lady what symbol I wanted and she did a great job painting it on. 20150613_122833

Mommy found this awesome tutorial on Pinterest and I think the StormTrooper marshmallows came out great! They tasted great too!

We had an awesome StormTrooper cutout for the front yard directing everyone to the back! The dress was from Zulily. The sass is all mine!

My other cake was a Yoda in Degoba diorama but it was very hot and the cotton candy was sticking together and melting.

My parents came up with a bunch of cool names for the food and drinks, but we will post that tomorrow in our Revenge of the 5th post.

I had a great time and can’t wait for my party this year!

See you next time!

Mini Monday – Post 4 – Star Wars

May The 4th Be With You!

We love Star Wars in our family! We are OBSESSED! I can’t wait for my Star Wars theme party next month!

I decided to do this post about Star Wars and all of my Star Wars things, like toys and stuff. My Mom and Dad probably have more Star Wars shirts than I do. Well, I don’t know about my Dad, but my Mom definitely does!

First up is my R2D2 Bobblehead.. It bounces down and back and forth.

Next are my Star Wars Original and Rebels toys. Some haven’t been opened yet. I will get to play with them on my birthday because they are going to be used for my party.

I get the LEGO Club magazine in the mail and I love when they do Star Wars editions! I found the Science Experiment book at my school’s Book Fair. The sticker book was from TRU, I think.

I just made this over the weekend at TRU. They had a special Star Wars event and I got to pose with a Storm Trooper! It is called the ‘Wookie Ship”, I think. I also found plushies of Ezra and the Inquisitor.

This is a large “Darth Tater” that my parents bought a few years ago. Until now, I had no idea it has a mini Darth Tater, a Spud Trooper and an Artoo-Potatoo on the inside.

Even our Pugs are in on the Star Wars action. We bought them all Yoda ears and Chey had Princess Leia ears as well. We found these awesome harnesses at Petco!

Now, we move on to clothes. As I said, my Mom had a bunch of Star Wars shirts and we couldn’t find them all. This one belongs to my Dad (he was actually wearing it today). It looks old..

20150503_215036

Here are two of my shirts and my favorite pair of shorts..

Lastly, this is the shirt I am wearing to school for Star Wars Day..

Well, that’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed my Star Wars things.

See you next week!
