What Would REALLY Make You Happy?

Let’s get real about what would bring you the most happiness.

Sadly, it’s fairly common for people to not calculate their own personal satisfaction into their life journey. They pick a career they think can benefit them the most as opposed to a career they can feel good about.

The reasons are a mile long:

  • “I can’t do that full time. It won’t pay enough.”
  • “There is no room for advancing in that career or it would take too long.”
  • “I want to win awards and be on tv one day and this isn’t going to get me there.”

It’s all about money or prestige for them, but it doesn’t have to be.

Let’s discuss.

Foundations

Yes, your chosen career sets you up for the life you will live. It will dictate if you are able to live out the personal life you’ve dreamed about.

It’s your financial foundation, if you will.

So, can’t it also be a source of happiness as well?

I mean, if you’re going to be doing the same thing day in, day out, month after month, year after year.. don’t you want it to also be something you’re passionate about?

Procrastination Station

Do you want to know what happens to people who don’t love what they’re doing? They end up procrastinating on simple things or avoiding getting any work done. They’re burnt out and dissatisfied with work and it spills into their personal life.

Either they spend less time working and more time pursuing hobbies or their irritation gets the better of them and everything becomes a problem.

Are you spending more time avoiding work? It might be time for a change.

Change Begins When You're Ready

Though it’s not always possible, we want to be happy with our quality of work and be able to enjoy our personal time.

If you’re constantly wrestling with those nagging feelings of negativity and you feel you’re unable to implement effective time management, you are, quite frankly, not meeting your needs in either your business or your personal life.

So what do we do?

It’s time to analyze.

Grab Some Paper!

Let’s do some journaling or brainstorming:

  • Where are you right now?
  • Are you where you want to be or at least on track towards that goal?
  • What is it about life that brings you the most happiness?
  • Are you even happy with your career choice?
  • Could it be time to pivot or refocus?

If you’re being 100% honest and it truly is your love of helping others achieve their goals that drives you, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to pursue more of that.

On the other hand, let’s make sure it isn’t destroying your personal life in the process. You need down time to re-energize and refuel. That time away could be crucial to maintain your creative flow and dedication to quality.

It Doesn't Matter, But It Does

It’s completely possible that what makes you happiest in life can be something seemingly insignificant, like enjoying your morning cup of coffee in nature (or your porch/deck).

Are there things that you have been unable to fit into your schedule due to poor time management?

You yearn to start your mornings off slowly and relax while you enjoy your breakfast/coffee, but you just end up grabbing your coffee and heading to your desk instead.

Keeping up with business demands leaves you scrambling at times, doesn’t it?

The Bottom Line:

If you notice your happy moments keep slipping away, you have GOT to learn how to get them back! That may mean delegating portions of your business to other people.

Your VA (virtual assistant) could check and respond to your emails each morning. You could hire a freelancer in lieu of a full time employee. Check Fiverr for that.

Another suggestion: develop templates and systems to free up some time. Knowing what to do and when will save you from so many headaches down the line. Something to think about 🙂

Whatever you choose, Good Luck with it all!
