I usually don’t do reviews but I couldn’t resist this one. “The Lion King” was a phenomenal show. The opening number of “Circle of Life” grips you in with an impressive display of what can only be described as theatrical wonders. Without giving a lot of the show away, I have to say I’m impressed with the giraffes. I can barely walk in heels and these actors are on feet AND hand stilts. WOW!
I loved sneaking peeks at Mini to see the looks of wonder and joy on her face. It was my sister K’s first Broadway show as well. Both had a blast! There were a few musical numbers in the show that prompted Mini to say quietly “That wasn’t in the movie”. It made me laugh. She was right. They added a few things, but the storyline stayed true to our beloved movie!
I can’t tell you how excited I was to see this. After I first saw the Lion King in theatres as a kid (again not giving away my age), I received a stuffed Nala as a gift that Christmas. This past Christmas, my in-laws (who had planned the show trip) sent Mini a stuffed Simba. I passed along Nala as a gift to Mini which thrilled her to no end.
If you are ever in New York City, PLEASE do yourself a favor and see a show!
Oh, then go eat at Carmine’s. Trust me!
